FROM THE DIRECTOR
Welcome to the new school year - and a special welcome to those new to the school. I am extremely happy to be joining the Einstein as Head of School.
First let me to tell you a little about my experience. As some of you already know, I have been working in education for nearly 30 years. I studied Italian and French language and literature at Cambridge University in the UK (Spanish is my fifth foreign language). I began my career at St. Paul's, an outstanding independent school, in London. After thirteen years in the UK and a year of voluntary work in rural Tanzania, I became Deputy Head of the British School in São Paulo for six years. From there I took up the position of Director of the British School in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and most recently I was Director of the International School of Azerbaijan. So I have worked in and led a variety of first-rate organizations in different parts of the world.
On my two visits to the Einstein before taking up this new appointment I was extremely impressed with what I observed. I saw students who were enthusiastic about their learning; I met parents who were confident that the school was providing an excellent level of education for their children; I spoke to support staff who were working hard to ensure that all is in place to facilitate the learning process; and I met teaching colleagues who were committed and engaged in the learning process and who were also, importantly, committed to continuous improvement, both for personal professional development and for the institution as a whole. The school is united in a collaborative and positive approach and it has excellent learning outcomes. In short it is a top quality institution.
It is a privilege for us all to be associated with such a school, and at the beginning of a new school year it is always a good idea to remind ourselves why were are here – i.e. our mission.
We are a not-for-profit, bilingual, secular educational community founded by the Jewish Community of Ecuador, based on universal principles of Jewish culture and centered on students’ comprehensive education. Our contribution to society is educating well-rounded, analytical, and critical students endowed with ethical values and the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a changing world.
To be a leader in educating students, providing a world-class academic level, ensuring a professional staff and introducing innovations, all this in a warm, welcoming and motivating environment.
My main task for the coming months is to look, listen, discuss and learn. The Board and the whole community have stated its objective for the continual improvement, striving for excellence in all areas.
I aim first to get to know all the stakeholders of this wonderful community - colleagues, students, parents, the whole community - over the next few weeks. I am really looking forward to working with you all not only to ensure the continuity of the excellent work done until now at the college, but also to begin to plan the next phase of the school’s development.
Please note that in the next few days you will be receiving communications about opening ceremonies and other meetings for parents. I look forward to meeting you on these occasions.
